If you want country music on an FM station, you’re pretty much forced to listen to many non-country artists like Taylor Swift and a mix of top 40 / pop bands like Rascal Flatts. Sorry, but that just ain’t country to me.

In order to find something that didn’t make me want to blow chunks every 10 minutes, I hit the seldom used AM button on my car radio today. After a bit of scanning around the dial, I tuned to 1110 AM and heard Marty Robbins singing the original (and pre-Elvis) “That’s Alright Mama” from 1954. Awesome, right? Then they played “Pauncho & Lefty” by Willie Nelson, “Are the Good Times Really Over” (Snowball Headed for Hell) by Merle Haggard, and a bunch of other fantastic classic country hits, along with a good measure of modern artists like Tim McGraw & Toby Kieth, but only the best REAL country from those artists, and not the “pop-country” that they sometimes seem to produce for no other reason than to fulfill their recording contracts.

Now for the bad news… after a while, the sun went down, and as per usual for most AM radio stations, the signal faded into oblivion (insert heavy sigh here).

Not to worry, as the sun will surely rise tomorrow, and my radio will be set to 1110 AM to hear more tried & true, red, white & blue country music!
